BlackRock Center for the
Arts provides unique spaces for the creative expression of artists and the
active engagement of audiences of all ages. The leading arts venue in Upper
Montgomery County Maryland, BlackRock presents contemporary visual art
exhibitions, live performances, concerts, film screenings, social dances and
other special events as well as classes, camps and workshops. Focused on both visual and performing arts, BlackRock is a
nonprofit organization that takes a multidisciplinary and diverse approach to
the presentation of art and provides opportunities for artists and the
community to connect in a welcoming and intimate setting. Founded in 2002, BlackRock Center for

Artists working in all media are invited to apply to be considered for solo, small group, large group, and thematic exhibitions to be presented at BlackRock Center for the Arts in 2023 and beyond. Individual artists, curators, and coordinators of artist collectives and arts organizations who live or work in the Mid-Atlantic Region (defined as Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania) and New Jersey and all five boroughs of NYC are eligible to submit applications. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. BlackRock Center for the Arts is a multidisciplinary nonprofit arts center located in Germantown, Maryland which presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art by both emerging and established artists.

Gallery Spaces: The Kay Gallery is located on the main level and has 1,500 square feet of exhibition space with 16-foot-high walls topped by clerestory windows. Gallery II is located on the upper level and has up to 140 linear feet of wall display space, a wall of windows, and varied ceiling height with some areas open to the two-story atrium. Exhibitions are also presented online through the BlackRock Center for the Arts website.
Installation Details: BlackRock no longer requires the use of the cable hanging system. It is now possible to use nails, screws, and other fasteners to install artwork in the galleries. All installations must be approved by the Gallery Director. A limited number of pedestals are available for three-dimensional work. At present time we are unable to hang work from the ceiling.
Eligibility: Artists over age 18 who reside in the Mid-Atlantic region (Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Delaware) may submit exhibition proposals. Artists must be able to provide delivery of all artwork in the exhibition to our gallery space in Germantown, MD. BlackRock Center for the Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and currently does not have funding to pay for artwork shipping, transportation, or artist travel expenses.
Selection Process: Exhibition Proposals may be submitted year round. Each year, all exhibition proposals received by February 1 will be included in the annual review by a panel of arts professionals. The panel may include museum curators, art consultants, art critics, independent curators, art historians, art educators and accomplished artists who will review completed proposals and make selections in consultation with the Gallery Director. Considerations used to evaluate proposals include artistic quality, depth of content, originality, relevance, and feasibility.
